PDIForm2012
PLEASE note – the deadline is fast approaching for the NIPA Annual Exhibition Competition.
The NIPA Annual Print and PDI Competitions and Exhibition will take place in The Waterfront Hall, Belfast from 6th to 24th February.
Entries will be received from 9th January until 26th January.
I have attached the rules and entry forms for both print and PDI competitions.  Please note that the NIPA exhibition will also be shown in Ardhowen as part of the Enniskillen Arts Festival 2012 (4th -7th October 2012).  There is an entry fee of £1 per print or PDI image.  It would probably be better if the entry fees were paid as a single sum to NIPA.  All prints must be on 40cm by 50cm mounts. The theme in all sections is OPEN.
If you wish to enter your prints or digital images (on CD) contact me BEFORE 25th January to arrange collection of your prints etc. and allow time for their transport to Belfast.

Towns and Villages Pictures 1992/3

December 22, 2011
Towns and Villages Pictures
Enniskillen Photographic Society (EPS) members took a number of pictures of several towns and villages in 1992/93.  These included Derrygonnelly, Irvinestown, Enniskillen, Tempo etc.  The pictures were then displayed in the Ardhowen Threatre in 1993.  The images, approx 600 have since been sitting in a filing cabinet in the Ardhowen Threatre gathering dust.  A decision was made by the EPS Committee to share these pictures with Enniskillen Castle Museum and are currently being scanned.  The photographer who took the image still retains copyright, but unless the photographer put their name on the back, it is impossible to determine who that person is.
Once the images are scanned, the museum have no need of the hard copy.  The choice of disposal is as follows:
1 – destroy
2 – give to anyone who asks for them.
3 – donate them to the respective towns/village (to Development Associations etc).
I am in support of option 3.  There are some great pictures and some of a lesser standard.  Many are of people, some who are probably dead and buried a long time ago.  Others are of the primary school pupils, who would now be in their late 20s.  I accept that some Development Associations come and go and in 15 years time the pictures could end up in an attic only to be forgotten about, but it is better than option 1.
Grateful if you can come back to me if there are any objections to option 3, no later than 31 Jan 2012.  If there  are no objections by the end of Jan 2012, then I will get in contact with the Organisations from the respective towns/villages.  If the originator would like the photographs back, then they are more than welcome to come to the Museum with me and we can go through the images and they can take them home.
If you are in contact with anyone from the 1992/93 era who no longer are members of the EPS, I would be grateful if you can pass on the message to them
Many thanks Stephen Hetherington

Macro/Close-ups 15th Dec 2011

December 15, 2011

Message body

To all members
Just to remind you about tonight’s meeting of EPS, 8pm in Ardhowen, the theme is Macro/close-up in both theory and practice.
Stephen has asked me to remind you that if you are bringing your camera please bring a tripod, if you have one.
Also, you will recall that in the 2010-11 session Stephen launched a project where images were being taken of every village and town in Fermanagh , with the view of building up a modern set of images which would eventually be housed in the county museum.  Some of you will have signed up for a particular town/townland or village.  Stephen has asked me to remind you about this and ask if you have not yet submitted images could you please do so ASAP.  If you have forgotten your area or want to particpate please email Stephen.
The images (jpeg) can be placed on a CD/DVD and posted to myself, or if not too numerous emailed to me or Stephen Hetherington stevehetherington@yahoo.co.uk
Finally we are having an informal get together for a christmas drink on monday night next (19th Dec.) in Blake’s of the Hollow.  Please come along if you are free (about 7.30pm).
On behalf of the committee and myself I would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and a peaceful new year for 2012.
Raymond Millar (Chairperson 2011-12)
